New Applique Designs

Please Note: Only one design taught per workshop.

General Techniques:

Either raw edge machine applique or turned edge machine applique with satin stitched stems.

Stabiliser and glue kit: $30.00

All of these projects require a stabilizer and glue kit to be purchased from the tutor.

Fabric and thread kit:

An optional fabric and thread kit can also be made available for some designs.

Requirements:

A sewing machine that has a zigzag stitch and an open toe applique foot is essential to this workshop.

Skill Level:

Mainly confident beginners but the more complex variations require more skill

1. Rosemaling

Description: This European inspired design is machine appliqued and can be embellished with satin stitch. It is constructed using new products from Matilda's Own using either Polyfuse or Printable fusible and comes in different sizes and larger versions can be created to suit the workshop co-ordinator.

Timeframe: Two-day or three-day workshop Turned edged or raw edge (zig-zag or satin stitch).

Skill level: Confident beginners and beyond.

Project size: 19 circle (24 inch finished or a 21 circle (30 inch finished. A pattern for an optional border (not shown) will be provided in the workshop.

Requirements: A sewing machine that has a zigzag stitch and an open toe applique foot is essential to this workshop.

Techniques: Turned Edge Applique (Matilda's Own Polyfuse)

Raw Edge Applique Tildafis Light - a printable fusible.

Kits: Each project comes with a Bit Kit containing pre-printed templates, other essential notions and laser cut plastic setting template to assist in marking the pattern onto the background.

2. Machine Applique 3 Ways - Eggy Birds

Description: This is a technique workshop.

Timeframe: 1-day workshop applique 3 ways. Introduces machine applique techniques. The basics of satin stitch, raw edge and turned edge applique by machine.

Skill Level: Beginners, but knowledge of your sewing machine is required

Techniques: Include buttonhole stitch/fancy stitch, satin stitch, raw edge, turned edge and applique/quilt.

Requirements: A sewing machine that has a zigzag stitch and an open toe applique foot is essential to this workshop.

Kits: This workshop comes with a Bit Kit with pre-printed applique shapes on fusible stabilizers plus other notions required in the class. This is the most cost effective way to provide the specialist items to the students.

3. Machine Applique 5 Ways - Looking Out!

Description: Looking Out! This is a fun workshop designed to teach a variety of different machine applique methods. The student can decide on their own aquarium layout.

Timeframe: 2-day workshop. Working from a small project this workshop aims to introduce students to various mix and match all the machine applique techniques I commonly use

Skill Level: Beginners, but knowledge of your sewing machine is required.

Techniques: Raw edge, turned edge, decorative stitch, padded and free motion applique.

Requirements: A sewing machine that has a zigzag stitch and an open toe applique foot is essential to this workshop.

Kits: This workshop comes with a Bit Kit with pre-printed applique shapes on different fusible stabilizers plus other notions required in the class. This is the most cost effective way to provide the specialist items to the students.
